COB LED downlights are a type of LED spotlights that come with a COB chip (Chip On Board) and a reflector to produce light that is focused in a particular and concentrated area. Based on this, COB chip requires a big size of aluminium heat sink for more capacity at thermal conductivity.
With regard to SMD LED downlights, it is based on SMD chips (Surface Mount Diode). Compare to COB LED downlights, SMD LED downlights produce a wide beam angle to increase the distributing range of light, which produce more lumens per watt and are more efficient than COB LED, that is to say SMD LED produce more light with same electric cost. SMD LED downlights have a frosted reflectors to generate a broader light beam.
