S20 Magnetic Track Light Module Selection for Commercial Projects
When you plan a recessed magnetic lighting project, S20 series is one of the most popular options for shops, galleries and brand showrooms. Many buyers only check wattage and price, but mix up different module types, which ends up with uneven lighting or glare issues on site. This guide helps you select and combine S20 magnetic modules properly for commercial lighting layouts.
The 3 core S20 module types and their use cases
All these modules fit the same S20 recessed track, but they serve totally different lighting purposes. You cannot simply replace one with another.
1.Cut-off / beam spot module It creates a concentrated light pool for highlighting products, artworks, wall displays. Available beam angles such as 15°, 24°, 36°. Narrow angles work for single product focus, wider 36° for larger display zones. This is the most widely used module in retail storefronts.
2.Flood linear module It delivers soft, wide basic ambient lighting. It does not create sharp light spots. Usually arranged evenly along the track to lift the overall brightness of the whole space, working together with spot modules to avoid dark corners.
3.Anti-glare grille module Built with internal honeycomb or grille structure to cut down direct glare. Suitable for areas where staff or customers look upward frequently, such as checkout counters, passageways and long viewing galleries. The light is controlled and comfortable for long stays.
Key specs you need to confirm before order
1. CRI and CCT
For clothing, jewellery, furniture and paint showrooms, CRI90+ is strongly recommended, so colours of goods look true and consistent. Common colour temperatures: 2700K / 3000K warm white for luxury brands, 4000K neutral white for general retail. Always confirm the same binning if you split orders in batches.
2. Beam angle planning and mounting spacing
Do not place all spotlights with the same angle randomly. As a simple rule:
- 15°: small exhibits, single product showcase
- 24° ~ 36°: standard shelf and wall washing
- Wider flood modules: space base lighting Also leave proper spacing between modules. Too dense arrangement causes over-bright hotspots and wastes power.
3. Dimming compatibility
S20 modules support different dimming versions: 0-10V, DALI, Zigbee. Make sure the modules match your 48V constant voltage driver. It is a frequent project mistake: buying non-dimmable modules and pairing them with smart dimming power supplies.
4. Power load calculation
Add up the wattage of all S20 modules on one power feed, reserve 20% extra capacity for the driver. Never run the driver at full rated load continuously, this accelerates heat and shortens the whole system lifespan.
Common sourcing & project mistakes
1.Only order spot modules, without flood modules for base lighting. The space ends up spotty with lots of dark gaps.
2.Low CRI selected for colour-sensitive products. Customers complain goods look different under store light and daylight.
3.Mixing S20 modules with other series tracks. Profiles and copper contact positions are different; modules cannot clip on or power up.
4.Ignoring anti-glare requirement for galleries. Visitors feel uncomfortable and the lighting effect gets poor feedback.
5.Different batches with inconsistent CCT bin, visible colour difference after installation.
RFQ checklist you can send directly to supplier
- Track type: Recessed S20 magnetic track
- Module mix: cut-off spot / flood / grille anti-glare
- Wattage per piece
- Beam angle for spot modules
- CRI requirement (Ra90 or Ra80)
- CCT and binning request
- Dimming protocol: Non-dimmable / 0-10V / DALI / Zigbee
- Total quantity of each module type
- Target lead time
- Destination market and certification requirement
FAQ
Q: Are S20 modules interchangeable with 4.5mm ultra-narrow magnetic track? A: No. Each magnetic series has its own track profile and contact layout. S20 modules only fit S20 track. Q: Can I install many S20 spot modules on one long track with a single driver? A: Yes, but you must calculate total power and follow the 20% power reserve rule. For very long tracks, multiple feeding points are needed to avoid voltage drop. Q: Is grille module always better than normal cut-off spot? A: Not always. Grille models reduce glare, but they also lose some light output. If you need maximum brightness on merchandise, standard cut-off spot is preferred.
